A "sentinel in stone" on a building near the World Trade Center on Vesey Street. It is one of two paintings chosen for the 71st Midyear Exhibition at The Butler Institute of American Art in Youngstown, OH, July 15-August 26.

This painting, done in 1978, changed my approach to my work. When I saw the photo I had taken with my first 35mm camera, I immediately wanted to paint the image - and thus began my process of painting from my photos, which I continue to this day. There have been many paintings inspired by the festival in the years since. The music, the colors, the neighborhood, and of course, the food - a great New York fair.

After attending an art reception where several photographer friends had work on exhibit, I took a 40-block stroll home last night and noticed a lot of people eating out - as usual. Painting New York's restaurants is a subject I never tire of.
